According to a research, a total of 114 crore people smoke in the world. Out of which the number of smokers in India is around 29 crore.
According to a study by the international journal Lancet, 10 lakh people die every year in India due to smoking. According to the Global Adult Tobacco Survey India, hookah, bidi, cigarette, zarda, tobacco, betel nut, gutkha, khaini are consumed in the form of smoking in India.
Smoking not only causes disease but also destroys the settled life of many families. Once one gets addicted to drugs, there is a problem in quitting it. By adopting some methods, addiction can be given up very easily.
1. Identify the reasons for quitting smoking
You want to quit smoking. Ask yourself why quitting smoking is beneficial. Will it save money or will it affect the child if you are pregnant. When you probe your mind with these questions, then you will be able to make a commitment to yourself.2. Choose an interest so that the commitment does not break
If you want that your friends are forcing you to smoke again and again, then go to museum, library, gym, shopping according to your interest.3. Select a date to quit smoking
Select a date to quit smoking. Promise yourself that I am quitting smoking from this date.4. Tell others
When you have quit smoking, tell your friend or relative that I have quit smoking from this date. If they ask you to smoke, thank them.5. Keep distance from things used in smoking
You have quit smoking. But keep the things used in smoking like cigarette ashtray, hookah, lighter, spittoon away from your sight. So that you do not accidentally remember smoking6. Change your eating habits
Add vegetables, fruits and snacks to your diet7. Consult a doctor
Share your thoughts about quitting addiction with your doctor. The doctor can recommend some medicine which can be helpful in quitting addiction.8. Take help of behaviour therapy
Behaviour therapy is a therapy in which your close relatives, close friends can help you at every step in quitting addiction. For example, if you are smoking cigarettes at home or in a public place, then your family members or friends can stop you and ask why you are smoking since you have quit smoking.9. Take help of nicotine replacement therapy
Nicotine replacement therapy can prove to be the most effective in reducing your addiction.10. Do meditation
Do meditation for 30 minutes every day in the morning. This will calm your mind. When your mind is calm, you will be aware of your health.
