The total number of patients suffering from Mumps Virus in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra has reached 15667. Cases have started increasing in Delhi NCR region as well.

Due to low mortality rate in Mumps Virus, no media, newspaper is showing interest in giving information about it. Mumps Virus mortality rate is 1.6% to 3% in 10000 patients. Out of 10000 patients, 160 to only 300 people can die.

What Is Mumps Virus?

Mumps Virus is a type of viral flu. It is also called mumps. This virus affects the salivary gland. This salivary gland is behind the ear. When this virus occurs, the salivary gland gets swollen due to which saliva is not produced.

What causes Mumps virus?

The chances of getting this virus are more in the person who has not taken the measles and mumps vaccine. This virus spreads by touching a dirty surface or eating leftover food or talking too much with someone or kissing.

Symptoms of virus?

  • Swelling in salivary glands
  • Tenderness in glands
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Fatigue
  • Dry mouth
  • Knee pain
  • Vomiting
  • Stiff neck
  • Stomach pain

What is the best treatment?

The best treatment for this virus is to apply ice pack on swollen glands and take maximum rest and drink as much water as possible and eat as much acidic foods as possible and consult a doctor

Prevention methods

Wash hands thoroughly with soap after toilet. Maintain distance from the infected person. Wash hands before eating food. Do not share clothes and caps, glasses and masks with anyone

Why does Mumps Virus make children and the elderly its victims?

There are more chances of a small child getting infected with this Virus. The reason for this is that a small child does not have immunity. When there is no immunity, their body will not be able to fight this virus.

This virus is easily capable of making the elderly its victim. The reason for this is that the immunity of an elderly person is very weak.
