Influencer marketing analysis platform KlugKlug published a report. In this report, research was done on 8 million accounts, out of which 60 percent accounts are fake.
2 out of 3 Instagram accounts in India are fake. The fake accounts also have fake following which is AI generated. The Indian influencer market is worth Rs 1800 crore.
KlugKlug co-founder Satish Kalyan told in an interview to Money Control that most fake accounts are used in the fashion and beauty industry.
Fashion and beauty industry is a consumer goods on a daily basis. He further said that out of only 8 million accounts, 40 percent accounts are not fake.
India is the biggest hub of fake Instagram accounts in the world.
India is in the first position in terms of buying and selling Instagram followers. The suppliers of the most fake followers are Russia and Turkey.
After India, the most fake accounts, ranging from 40% to 50%, have been found in the United Arab Emirates, where 50% of every top influencer are fake.
Indonesia has 19% fake accounts, which means 2 out of every 10 accounts are fake. Indonesia buys 40% fake accounts and sells 60% fake accounts.

KlugKlug’s report also revealed that 1000 IG followers can be obtained from 8 rupees to a maximum of 100 rupees. You just need to have an idea of bargaining.
Nano and micro influencers whose followers on IG range from 100 to 10000 and 10000 to 100000 respectively, are the ones who buy the most fake followers.
The reason is that only when they have a lot of followers on their account, they will get advertising and sponsorship from companies.
Companies suffer a loss of 30 percent to 50 percent due to fake followers.
Sahil Chopra, founder of ad tech platform iCubesWire, said that ever since fake Instagram influencers have come in the market, the company is suffering a loss of 30 percent to 40 percent in advertising.
Giving proof of this, he said that Sugar Cosmetics selected 11000 female social media influencers for campaigning of its product, out of which 3000 had trusted followers and the remaining 8000 accounts had fake followers.
Sahil Chopra said that if any brand selects 100 influencers for campaigning, then 30 of them will be fake.
